Details

This is a foundation course on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Healthcare), designed for Healthcare Professioanls  who want to understand how AI is transforming clinical decision-making. The course introduces the essential principles of AI — what it is, how it works, and how it can be responsibly applied in real-world healthcare settings.

Through a structured, clinically oriented approach, you’ll learn how AI assists in diagnosis, workflow optimisation, patient monitoring, and treatment planning. The focus is on developing AI literacy for doctors — understanding concepts like algorithms, bias, interpretability, and validation, without needing a technical background.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to interpret AI outputs with confidence, critically evaluate new tools, and identify safe, ethical, and effective ways to incorporate them into your clinical practice. You’ll develop the confidence to engage in informed discussions about AI, collaborate with data teams, and take leadership in guiding digital transformation within your department or institution.

Course Curriculum

Month 1: AI Fundamentals—Building Literacy & Demystifying Tools

Module 1: The New Reality—Why AI is Essential for Healthcare

  • Kick-off Webinar with real stories from Indian hospitals
  • Interactive Polls: Map participant expectations & AI fears/misconceptions

Module 2: AI vs Traditional Programming: What’s Different? Demystifying Key AI Terminology

  • Explanation with analogies (as in your overview, teaching computers like teaching children)
  • Activity: Role-play – physicians versus an “AI bot” handling questions
  • AI, ML, Deep Learning, NLP (using analogy-rich teaching)
  • Quiz: Match-the-concept workshop

Module 3: Prompt engineering and Essential AI Tools for Clinicians

  • Live Demonstrations: ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini
  • Hands-On Assignment:
    • Explore Perplexity for medical query generation
    • Try out ChatGPT for writing patient education material or prescriptions
    • Use Gemini/Claude for summarizing a medical research paper

Module 4: Advanced Prompt Engineering & Custom GPTs

  • Workshop:
    • Step-by-step guidance to make personal GPTs (see Fortis Brochure)
    • Written prompt templates for clinical scenarios (discharge summary, patient FAQs, referral letters)
  • Peer Assignment: Each participant builds one custom GPT for their routine—demo in Q&A

Month 2: AI in Practice—Clinical, Admin, and Patient Engagement

Module 5: How to use AI for study,

  • Hands-on:
    • Use NotebookLM for literature reviews, “study guide” generation with real topics
    • Write abstracts, search PubMed, make charts using AI tools
  • Group Project: Practical used cases of notebook lm in your work

Module 6: How to use AI for research form identifying research question to data collection

· Prompt for different stages of research

· Identify and design a research topic

  • Group Project:Small teams select a sample clinical/research scenario and use AI for data summary/presentation

Module 7: How to make presentation and personal branding with AI

  • Hands-on: Canva for instant medical presentation, social media avatar creation, ElevenLabs for telecaller automation
  • Project: Make a short educational video with an avatar, post on social media

Module 8: Workflow Automation: Admin and Documentation

  • Live Demo: Medical Scribe tools (virtual demo or YouTube videos)
  • Simulation Exercise:
    • Use a mock AI scribe to create visit notes
    • Analyze how much time gets saved; share results

Module 9: AI for Imaging, Diagnostics

· Image classification, segmentation, and pattern recognition

· Use cases: Lung nodules, fractures, diabetic retinopathy, breast cancer

· Real-world workflow integration — PACS, DICOM, and AI dashboards
